Another Sexist and Rape-y Advertisement

Only days ago, I was a guest speaker in an Intro to Women's Studies course. I spoke to the students about gender representations in advertising (think Jean Kilbourne). I sure do wish I had had this one for my Power Point.

Someday I would like advertisers to see women as more than the sum of their holes.

This ad is far from sexist or supporting the rape of women. Simply the ad was constructed with women creating snow angels on top of the Target bullseye.

And in full disclosure - I do work for Target.

It's a snow-angel Target ad. It'd make more sense as a sexist ad if she were wearing a skirt or just bearing more skin in general, thanks to the perspective, but as it is, I don't get it.

I agree with anonymous and I do not work for target and am a feminist studies major focusing in media studies and this is just a target ad taken out of context

Gimme a break, Anonymous. Riight: women and their vaginas are NEVER the target for sexual aggression. Whether or not Target was thinking about our society's rape culture, there are implicit messages that we are conditioned to respond to.
